Gehen in der Wüste (proposal)

Interactive pavillion design to exermine the philosophical experiences Otl Aicher had during his long Sahara treks, and which he described in his book ‘Gehen in der Wüste’ 1982 (’Walking in the desert’).

Interlectual source: Otl Aicher - Gehen in der Wüste

Year: 2020

Client:  self-initiated

This project aims to communicate the values of the desert culture, which Otl Aicher impressively described in his book ‚Walking in the Desert‘, by an interactive pavilion installation.

Aicher focused on the social-cultural aspects that shaped his experiences and gave insights to his thoughts and philosophical observations during his traks through the Sahara.
Differences in the general perception of the respective living conditions and the moral attitudes derived from them are particularly fascinating.
This design tries to architecturally articulate how one human being is distracted by modern techniques of covering a hectic life while at the same time enables focusing on its purpose in this universe we live in.
